Rachel felt like doing a lot in her 6th month. Right when she turned 6 months, she sat up on her own. Two weeks later, she started scooting, to Mommy's chagrine :) thankfully it's scooting backwards and somewhat in a circular motion, so she is not way across the other side of the room if left unattended for 5 minutes...yet!
This just in: Rachel is still bald!
She just started waving recently, to our surprise. It wasn't until both Grace and Viv pointed it out that when we wave to Rachel, she flaps both arms at us, waving back!
Already wanting to take control of her eating--she was grabbing the spoon and shoving it in her mouth, along with her fingers. But with peas and green beans, she grimaces and tolerates it. Lots of clapping and praise are involved.

It's hard to believe that the girl I held at 6 weeks old is now 5 and holding my 6 month old. She held her for 20 mins straight, just like this.

In other news, She also has entered the whole new world of solids. Her first taste of rice cereal was a great success, with her begging for more! Mommy and Daddy were relieved; this girl likes to eat!
People always ask whether Rachel is actually this smiley. Well she is! But like any human being, she has her moments. See as follows:
Her teething finally resulted in two bottom teeth! It took a whole week (and a lot of eczema later) for them to break through the gums.
Back to her normal self:
What's been fun: watching Rachel rapidly develop and try new things (veggie purees, water), making her laugh (this month it is the animal noises from old McDonald had a farm), squeezing her ever growing turkey legs, watching her master her jumperoo toys, playing peek-a-boo by letting Rachel pull down the burp cloth we throw on her head, etc.
What's been not so fun: mommy threw out her back from carrying chunky Rachel and had to visit the chiropractor. Auntie Grace, auntie Priscilla, Auntie Kim, Auntie Taylor, Auntie Rachel, came over with their own kids in tow to help carry Rachel when she needed to nurse, to play, and to nap.
A week before turning 7 months, Rachel had another growth spurt, nursing every 1-2 hours with little napping.
Teaching Rachel sign language with no response feels ridiculous, but she is at the age where she needs to communicate her needs without whining.
Separation anxiety kicked in this month--especially in new environments like the church nursery and Korean BBQ restaurant (that may have been mommy and daddy's bad).
